Here is what I am reading now, then and next!

Now…

5177c9a29UL._AC_US160_I’m going to start Mr Mercedes by Stephen King which is for my August book group – I haven’t read any Stephen King for absolutely years so I’m really looking forward to it as it will be something a bit different I hope. Here’s the blurb…

A cat-and-mouse suspense thriller featuring Bill Hodges, a retired cop who is tormented by ‘the Mercedes massacre’, a case he never solved. Brady Hartsfield, perpetrator of that notorious crime, has sent Hodges a taunting letter. Now he’s preparing to kill again. Each starts to close in on the other in a mega-stakes race against time.

Then…

51AXFq32ehL._AC_US160_ 51op6MFRUVL._AC_US160_I polished off My Girl by Jack Jordan in a mere few hours last night – it is a bit dark and twisted, and pretty implausible, but I enjoyed it nevertheless!

On Monday I started This Must Be The Place by Maggie O’Farrell. I have been looking forward to reading this book for ages and the reviews have all been glowing – but I’m gutted to say I’ve been so disappointed by it! The structure is so frustrating, and there are too many characters that are introduced for one chapter never to be seen again, and it just drove me mad. The writing is obviously brilliant and I enjoyed much of what I read, but I found the constant flitting between characters and times maddening, and I actually gave up halfway through. I feel like I am missing something! I really want to pick it up again to try and get what everyone else sees in it, but just the thought of it makes me cross!

I also binge-read some young adult novels this weekend, and I’ll post a combined review on here tomorrow.

Next…

I’ve picked up a few thrillers recently – The Good Girl by Fiona Neill and Black Eyed Susans by Julia Heaberlin. I also bought Frog Music by Emma Donoghue, who wrote The Room, so I’m looking forward to getting into stuck into these shortly.

Have you read any of these books? And what are you reading now, then and next?
