ahouseofbooks January Kindle Challenge

Happy New Year everyone!

Although I own a Kindle, I reckon less than a fifth of the books I read in 2015 were on my e-reader. I just prefer a ‘real’ book, and although I do enjoy reading on the Kindle when I do, I always seem to go straight back to the good old-fashioned paper versions.download

However, this preference doesn’t seem to stop me downloading e-books, and over the past year I’ve accumulated a load of books on my Kindle that are languishing unread. So this month I’m determined to make a dent in my e-book backlog by NOT picking up any paperbacks or hardbacks for the whole month.

I’m aiming to read 8-10 e-books over the course of the month, and amongst the downloads I have sitting waiting to be read are:

  • The Corrections by Jonathan Franzen
  • Someone Out There by Catherine Hunt (I have to read this as it’s my January book club choice!)
  • The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd
  • The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman
  • The Book of You by Claire Kendal
  • Calling Me Home by Julie Kibler
  • Love Letters to the Dead by Ava Dellaira
  • Black Jack by Rani Manicka
  • The Shock of the Fall by Nathan Filer
  • Unaccustomed Earth by Jhumpa Lahiri

…. and about 100 others!

Of course I’ll be reviewing the books as I go, and maybe this challenge will encourage me to pick up my Kindle more in 2016.

How about you? Are you addicted to your e-reader or still partial to a paperback?

  1. I’ve had a kindle since 2010 but last year I had a real hankering to read more ‘real’ books (although I do read a fair bit on my kindle too) The Book of You is a great read and The Yellow Wallpaper is waiting to be read on my kindle too! I hope we both read it soon.

  2. I think I’m addicted to both – living in Pakistan, you can’t access most of the lesser known YA books, and that’s when I turn to my e reader for books. I love your list 🙂

  3. I love my kindle, but I do like to feel a good weighty book in my hands! I’ve seen you’ve got ‘The Shock of the Fall’ on your list. I picked up a copy of it from a charity shop the other day as part of my reading challenge and I’m just about to read it. I’ll keep an eye out for your review to see what you think!

  4. I’m so glad it’s not just me who accumulates books on my Kindle! I put them all in a “to read” folder just after Christmas and there were nearly 60. I’m trying to put a dent in them before I read more but it’s so hard to resist…
