Just realised there is only one month to go until Christmas! If you could receive just one book from Santa this year, what would it be and why? It can be a book you’ve read before, or one you are desperate to get your hands on…
The obvious answer is da Vinci’s Codex Leicester but Santa would have to lift it from Bill Gates and I don’t want the good Saint’s reputation tarnished. If I switch to mass printed books, the next most obvious is The Birds of America by John James Audobon…but eh birds. So, the next most logical, and yet something of actual literary interest to me, I’d go with a first edition Cantebury Tales. But finally, if I were to come down to reality and ask for something that is still very grand, but not absurdly out of reach…I’d ask for a first edition The Hobbit, or first edition The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. Good question. 🙂
Just one? 🙂
I’d like an advance copy of V.E. Schwab’s A Gathering of Shadows, the sequel to the fantastic A Darker Shade of Magic. It’s not published until February 2016. The first book was so good and I want to know what happens next!
Since money is no object for Santa, I think I’d have to ask him for the Folio Society edition of the Lord of the Rings trilogy–favourites of mine, and also the most beautiful books I’ve ever seen!
This is going to sound really odd but I read a book called Bad Girls over 25 years ago – it was set in Wales and the main protagonist was called Angaharad. I only read it once and left my copy on a train and I’ve been trying to track it down ever since but haven’t been able to find it (because I don’t know the author) so maybe Santa could ask his elves to seek it out for me?

I was gonna ask for the same thing! If it’s not too much to ask for, hopefully hardbound. 😊

That’s more than one book so I’m afraid that’s cheating 😉
