This Week In Books – 5 August 2015

Here is what I am reading now, then and next!

Now…

I have tons going on at the moment so I decided I needed a book that would be a bit of a page-turner and wouldn’t stretch my brain too much. I chose The Last Anniversary by Liane Moriarty. Here is the blurb…

last anniversary

Over seventy years have passed since sisters Rose and Connie Doughty found an abandoned baby near their home on the island Scribbly Gum. With no one to take care of it, Rose and Connie took the baby in as their own.

But now, with Connie dead and outsider Sophie Honeywell about to move into her home, Rose begins to wonder if they made the right decision all those years ago. How much longer can they cover up the lie that has sustained their community for generations? And what other secrets are about to be revealed?

I have read a few other Moriarty books and had mixed feelings about them, but this one sounds a bit different and may be just what I need to distract me from other things that are going on right now!

Then…mermaid chair

Today I finished The Mermaid Chair by Sue Monk Kidd. I’ll be posting my review here soon – be warned, it won’t be very favourable!

Next…

invisible signI’m off on holiday shortly and I have very optimistically packed four books! They are The Commitments by Roddy Doyle, Paper Aeroplanes by Dawn O’Porter, Sarah’s Key by Tatiana De Rosnay and An Invisible Sign Of My Own by Aimee Bender. I can’t wait to get stuck into these – all I need to do is figure out a way to leave my family behind so I can enjoy a week of uninterrupted reading in the sun! One can dream…

What are you reading now, then and next?

  1. Hi,

Great post 🙂 I read Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty last month and loved it. I also have two Sue Monk Kidd books on my TBR list. (The Invention of Wings and The Secret Life of Bees). I think we have similar taste in books so I’m looking forward to reading more of your posts !

    Nicola 🙂
